The Daddy Naggins on the Mary K Burke Show Sunday 26 February

The Daddy Naggins on the Mary K Burke Show Sunday 26 February

Feb 25, 2012

The Daddy Naggins are a Glasgow based bluegrass band with a difference.  Not only do they play electrifying bluegrass and rip roaring traditional tunes and songs, but they also play a range of original and modern classic pop songs, all given The Daddy Naggins special treatment!  After a year of gigs galore, they intend to hit the studio to record an EP of original songs.  They aim to maintain a high level of gigs around the Glasgow area and 2012 will see them playing all over the UK and Ireland  as well as playing summer festivals.

The Daddy Naggins were  formed during the autumn of 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Darren Young and banjoist/vocalist (loose term!) Garry McFadden with the intention of playing music of the Celtic diaspora that had the energy of punk and the drive of bluegrass.  Before long they were joined on bass guitar by Iain Strachan and on flutes and mandolin by Patrick Dunn (there Bostonian connection).  Of late, they  have been joined by fiddler Heather Macleod, a talented traditional student of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow and also multiple Scottish champion accordionist Liam Howitt bringing a greater depth of sound to the band.

Topping off the lineup is their human drum machine Mr Dion Walters.  Dion has been a professional drummer for many years and has sessioned for the likes of Nick Mason, The Drifters, 10cc and Rolf Harris! Dion is a true pro and never misses a beat!  The band hope 2012 will be the year that brings The Daddy Naggins to a wider audience, so stay tuned.

Glasgow singer Jim King on Ciaran’s Sunday Session

Feb 24, 2012

Ciaran’s Sunday Session guest on Sunday will be Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Jim King, who makes a welcome return visit to the show to chat about his new album ‘Views’.

Jim King has been singing folk songs since the 1960s and writing songs for a good few years. These days he mostly performs his own material along with a handful of songs he wishes he had written. He likes to put stories into his songs. Sometimes the stories are sad, sometimes they’re angry and sometimes they’re fun.

Jim has been recording a new solo album ‘Views’ which will be available in spring 2012.
