‘Aftergow’ John Boden – Celtic Music Radios’ Album of The Week 21 Oct 2017
‘Afterglow’ follows on from Boden’s 2009 post-apocalyptic concept-album masterpiece ‘Songs From The Floodplain’. Whereas Floodplain was largely rural in setting, Afterglow plunges the listener into the heaving chaos of a dystopian street carnival, an Orwellian mashup of Bonfire Night and Diwali. Through his unique songwriting Boden tells the story of two star-crossed lovers trying to find each other amongst a backdrop of decaying buildings, burning oil drums, home-made fireworks, tribal rioting and Bacchanalian revelry.
From a single singer songwriter – to 12 years with Bellowhead / 2009 to present with his own band The Remnant Kings to a duo with John Spiers not to mention numerous collaborations! John has been bringing his music to an ever increasing audience and grown fan base! Born in Chicago but growing up in Winchester while achieving many accolades along the way – from a masters degree in Composition for Musical Theatre from London College of Music no less that being recipient of 11 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ! Collaborating in projects along the way – notably A Folk Son A Day. This new album yet again combines the old and new with John’s particular stamp on it – always taking the music forward !
