Artists submitting material to Celtic Music Radio
How to get your music played on air!

Celtic Music Radio is committed to supporting new and emerging talent. The Celtic Music Radio team will be pleased to accept recordings of good quality from established and upcoming performers.
We will endeavour to give any such material some airplay subject to a quality threshold in terms of recording and performance.

This page contains some information on how to submit material to Celtic Music Radio.

First of all, some notes about our playout methods:

• Our main playout system is the Myriad computerised system. It stores all of the music internally as .WAV files. This ensures that
we start with the highest possible quality. This system provides all of the music for "unattended" sessions - overnight and at less
busy times through the day. It is also used for live shows by some of our more techno-literate presenters.

• Most presenters will use a mix of tracks from the automated system, and from CDs.

• Some presenters will only use CD (indeed, some have asked us to install a gramophone. How quaint!)

• In general, presenters like CDs, as the sleeve notes give them additional information on the material submitted.

• Any pre-recorded music played at our outside broadcast is CD-based.

So if music is supplied to us on CD, which we then copy onto the computerised system, it can satisfy all of these requirements, and the chances of the track being played are highest.

We normally can't accept submissions as MP3 - this format is very compressed. It may sound OK on first playout, but once you've converted it from digital to analogue and back to digital a few times as it passes through our playout system, and then to the transmitter or internet stream and on to the listener, the quality can be degraded.

In some exceptional cases it may be possible for us to accept certain types of material as .wav files or higher-bitrate MP3 - but please don't send these unsolicited! Talk to us first.

To send us a CD:

• Make sure it's a "production-quality" copy. Please don't just burn MP3s to a CD - it won't improve the sound quality!

• If it is a demo or pre-release CD, please make sure that both the CD and the case are clearly labelled. Use an indelible pen on the
CD rather than a sticky label.

• Make sure the sleeve notes contain details of where we can find out more info about you - eg your website. The presenters will often
look this up while a track is playing, to allow them to say a little about you afterwards - dates and venues for future gigs etc.

• Highlight your "best" or "favourite" tracks. Yes, we know they're all good, but some of our presenters may not be familiar with your
work. Give them a clue as to which ones to play! If you were releasing a "single", which one would it be? And include any MCPS, PPL
   or PRS copywrite information.

• Put the CD in the post with other relevant information to our studio:
