Glasgow singer Jim King on Ciaran’s Sunday Session

Feb 24, 2012

Ciaran’s Sunday Session guest on Sunday will be Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Jim King, who makes a welcome return visit to the show to chat about his new album ‘Views’.

Jim King has been singing folk songs since the 1960s and writing songs for a good few years. These days he mostly performs his own material along with a handful of songs he wishes he had written. He likes to put stories into his songs. Sometimes the stories are sad, sometimes they’re angry and sometimes they’re fun.

Jim has been recording a new solo album ‘Views’ which will be available in spring 2012.

Ciaran’s guest ‘castaway’ on his Sunday Session this week will be Dave Shaw from the Perthshire-based Americana band Red PineTimber Co. (pictured).

Formed in the summer of 2009, Red Pine Timber Co. originally set out as a ‘loose’ collective of musicians led by former Southpaw singer-songwriter and guitarist Gavin Munro.

Playing an eclectic mix of Americana and Country influenced originals they have developed their unique sound within this genre mostly due to the inclusion of saxophone within the instrumentation.  Coupled with the somewhat contrasting musical backgrounds and talents of each band member, the combination blends tastefully in supporting songwriter Munro.

Red Pine Timber Co. are currently in the studio writing and recording their forthcoming debut album, aiming to set a release date sometime in the first half of 2012.
