Tributes to Jean Redpath with Liz Clark

Tributes to Jean Redpath with Liz Clark

Aug 26, 2014

There will be tributes on Celtic Music Radio for singer Jean Redpath who died at the age of 77 on Thursday 21 August in a hospice in Arizona, USA.  The Edinburgh-born singer, who grew-up in Fife, died after losing her battle with cancer.
On Liz Clark’s Travel’s with my Aunt programme from 8.00pm on Tuesday 26 August, Liz will pay tribute to Jean Redpath.  Liz comments: “Jean was a lovely lady who I had the great privilege to meet on a number of occasions throughout the years, and she did more than most to promote Scottish music – especially Burns in the USA as well as here in Scotland.  It is great that we can still have her music with us.”
Liz will also be doing a tribute for fiddler Buddy MacMasters (pictured below) who died Wednesday evening, 20 August, at his home in Judique, N.S., just two months short of his 90th birthday, leaving behind a wife, Marie and two children, Allan and Mary.  He had stopped playing the fiddle in recent years as age and creeping infirmity ate away at his abilities, but his good humour remained, as will his legacy.buddy macmasterNatalie MacMaster, his niece, a world-renowned fiddler who emulates her uncle’s style commented: “Buddy put Cape Breton fiddle music on the map.”  Natalie remembers those long ago nights in Glencoe Mills, Nova Scotia. She was a child and when her uncle would hold court Thursday nights at Glencoe Mills the joint got hopping.
Before Liz’s programme, Sandy Semeonoff on his Planet Waves will also pay tribute to Jean Redpath and will include Jean singing Tae the Weavers from “First Flight” album and also The Birks of Aberfeldy from “The Scottish Fiddle: The Music & the Songs”
Sandy will also feature Buddy MacMaster with the Father John Angus Rankin Set with pianist Hilda Chasson from “The Judique Flyer” CD.
Sandy Semeonoff, Planet Waves, Tuesday 7.00pm; Liz Clark, Travels with my Aunt 8.00pm, Tuesday 26 August and Catch Up anytime. Repeat Wednesday 27 August 12noon and 1.00pm.
