Celtic Music Radio Presenter  -  Gerry Rossi


Gerry Rossi

Gerry Rossi is the Course Director for the renowned BA Applied Music degree at the University of Strathclyde's Jordanhill Campus.

A versatile multi-instrumentalist and composer, Gerry has written music for film, television and radio. His current work includes the choral music for the play Hephaistos, written by Chris Dolan.

He is Chair of the music charity Sounds of Progress. This is a company designing and delivering music workshops, training and education throughout Scotland and abroad.

He is also involved in collaborative teaching and research projects with the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Mass., USA. This includes Music Therapy, approaches to music composition and a faculty teaching exchange programme.

Gerry is director of the Strathclyde Improvisation Ensemble, which features 25 musicians on the BA Applied Music Degree course. The ensemble includes musicians from all styles of musical backgrounds - traditional, classical, rock, pop, jazz and electronic. A number of guest musicians from North America and Europe have been featured with the ensemble.

He is also a musician with and board member of the Scottish Composers Jazz Ensemble and performs regularly with the Strathclyde Big Band and his own ensemble, the Jazz Collective.

A Committee Member with the Parliamentary Cross Party Music Group, Gerry is also Universities Representative, Music Policy Forum, Glasgow City Council.

You can hear Gerry on Celtic Music Radio on Thursday evenings at 19:00 to 21:00 and again on Friday lunchtime at 12:00 noon.
