IONA FYFE FOR CELTIC MUSIC RADIO HOUSE CONCERT 

 

Aberdeenshire folksinger, Iona Fyfe, has become one of Scotland’s finest young ballad singers.

And she is staging a House Concert in the Celtic Music Radio station studios in Glasgow on Thursday, August 16.

Rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the North East of Scotland, Iona won a nomination for Scots Singer of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards 2017.

Her debut album, Away From My Window, offers innovative interpretations of ballads, self-penned and contemporary songs alike, whilst remaining sympathetic to the song tradition which Iona grew up with.

It was premiered at a sold out Celtic Connections’ performance this year, featuring a larger musical ensemble and live on-stage sampling of source singers.

Iona said: “I will be playing tracks from my debut album, Away From My Window and loads of other songs that mean a lot to me as well. I’m looking forward to a great night of music in intimate surroundings of the Celtic Music Radio studios.”

Described as “one of the best Scotland has to offer” by Global-Music.de Iona is also is performing in, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Holland and Canada in 2018.

For the August 16 gig, she will be joined on stage by guitarist, Luc McNally.

It is a BYOB and donation affair and doors open 7.30.
