Avocet takes its name from a Bert Jansch Album of the late 1970s.
‘folk+blues+world music+improv=Psychedelic folk. With Iona’s soothing yet haunting style on vocals, Herbie’s highly skilled double bass playing and Sam’s distinctive finger picking guitar style that reminds one of the likes of Bert Jansch and Ali Farka Touré, the three band members manage to combine the individual musical aspects into a nicely blended whole.’

Iona Zajac: Vocals, Harp / Herbie Loening: Double Bass, Electric Guitar /Sam Grassie: Acoustic Guitar, Fiddle
Since collecting their prestigious Danny award at Celtic Connections in January the band have been very busy in sitting exams but have still found time to gig such as Cottiers / The Broadcast/ Glasgow Goes Green Week Festival  in Feb ; Support for Yorkston . Thorne / Khan at Oran More in March ; On the BBC + just returning from Eden Fest – muddied but delighted ! Who will also be supporting Sketch this Friday 17 June in the Classic Grand
