Celtic Music Radio has welcomed the praise for its extensive live broadcasts throughout Celtic Connections from the festival’s Creative Director, Donald Shaw.

Donald said the station’s “support and professionalism” had been “exceptional” during its “huge undertaking” to provide live programmes from Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.

The station has been involved in live broadcasting at Celtic Connections for 20 years running.

“Glasgow is the global epicentre for live trad, roots and world music this month, with huge and appreciative audiences in every nook and cranny of the city,” said Donald.

“We’re acutely aware that not everyone can make it to see performances in person, which is where Celtic Music Radio plays such an important role, broadcasting from the heart of it all.

“Their volunteers and around 20 presenters help to take Celtic Connections to the world, and platform dozens of participants through interviews, live sessions and the popular Danny Kyle Open Stage specials.

“It is clearly a huge undertaking for the station and all of us at Celtic Connections are grateful for their exceptional support and professionalism throughout.”

The station has been offering eight hours of outside broadcasts from the Concert Hall daily for ten weekdays with live sessions of music, interviews and news, featuring more than 60 guests.

It has also delivered daily coverage of the hugely popular two-hour Danny Kyle Open Stage (DKOS) shows from the Concert Hall.

Chair of the station’s board of directors, Alex Jenkins, said: “We really appreciate Donald Shaw’s tribute that recognises our efforts in providing around 90 hours of live shows.

“He has commended the commitment, determination and expertise of our team of volunteers, who have done an amazing job.

“We have been at the heart of Celtic Connections for 20 years in a row and we look forward to our continuing involvement.

“Donald and his team have always been encouraging so we thank him for that and we welcome his very kind words – what he has said will be a real boost to the volunteers at the station.”

Producer, presenter and trustee of DKOS, Liz Clark, said: “The live broadcasts from the DKOS on Celtic Music Radio have been a big hit.

“We have had excellent acts every evening and each and every one has been heard all over the world thanks to the station, and that is something special that deserves to be celebrated.”
