Special Guest – Fuaim

Folk duo FUAIM are guests of Ian Oliphant on the Wednesday edition (August 5) of the Lunchtime Selection this week.
Maggie Wallace and David McKay are the musicians behind Fuaim, which is the Irish and Scots Gàidhlig word for “sound.”
Based in Renfrewshire and Ayrshire, their stirring musical collaboration involves whistles, mandolin, vocals, guitar and harmonica.
Maggie, who is Irish, said: “We take inspiration from artists on both sides of the Irish Sea.
“As well as collecting and reviving old Scottish and Irish folk songs, we compose original instrumental tunes and songs. Our collaboration looks to explore and showcase the music and stories of rural and oft-forgotten areas, such as Roscommon (Ireland) and Argyll (Scotland).”
They released debut single, Jenny Òg recently which is a based in Argyll.
Maggie said it’s a song that makes light-hearted references to various areas in Argyll, such as Dunoon, Tighnabruaich, Oban, Strachur, Glendaruel and Colintraive.
“Although based in Argyll, the song reflects traditions that are still strong and celebrated all over rural Scotland today – such as shinty, farming and ceilidhs,” said Maggie.
