Album of the Week – Charlie McKerron and Friends ‘St Kilda Lass’

Written by on October 30, 2026

This superb album brings together one of Scotland’s finest fiddle players with a cast of outstanding musicians in a celebration of melody, tradition and place.

Best known as a founding member of Capercaillie, Charlie McKerron has been at the forefront of Scottish traditional music for more than four decades, admired for his expressive playing, acclaimed compositions and deep understanding of Highland musical traditions.

Throughout his career, Charlie has combined a profound respect for Scotland’s musical heritage with a gift for writing tunes that have themselves become part of the modern tradition, widely played and admired by musicians across Scotland and beyond.

St Kilda Lass is a richly rewarding collection of tunes, most of them composed by Charlie and inspired by Scotland’s history, landscapes and people.

Performed alongside an outstanding group of friends and musical collaborators, the album captures both the vitality of contemporary Scottish traditional music and its enduring connection to the past.

Charlie will be chatting to Hugh Taylor about his music, his composing and this latest release on the Album of the Week Show on Saturday at noon.
