There was an extra special show on Celtic Music Radio today, marking Stewart Fenwick’s 50 years in broadcasting – an outstanding achievement and a cause for celebration.

“Over the years, I’ve interviewed over 400 artists from home and abroad live in the studio, recorded at gigs, or on my travels to Canada and Nashville, or on the phone,” said Stewart, who has been a Celtic Music Radio presenter for the past 20 years.

His two-hour Celtic Country show every Sunday at midday is widely regarded as one of the best in this genre as it is packed with new tracks, loads of information and fine chat.

On this landmark show Stewart looked back at some of the most memorable moments he has shared with his delighted listeners.

He included his first interview with Sydney Devine as well as a last-minute request from her record label to meet Shania Twain on her first gig in Glasgow – at The Ferry. Shania is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and the best-selling female artist in country music history.

There was even a blast from the past involving his fellow station presenter, Moira Kerr who recorded a country album back in the 1980s – and the show also featured Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, George Hamilton IV and Ricky Skaggs.

Stewart added: “Thanks to all the artists, event organisers, promoters and publicists who have supported me and my programmes along the way, and a special thank you to every single listener who has tuned in over the years.

“Radio has changed, country music most definitely has changed, but I’m still playing country music 50 years on – I’m still Keeping It Country.”

His 50 years in broadcasting started off on his school’s radio station, Radio Lornshill in Alloa, then through Radio Airthrey at Stirling University, Central FM and finally to Celtic Music Radio.

Chair of the board of directors at Celtic Music Radio, Alex Jenkins, praised Stewart for his music knowledge and broadcasting skills.

“Stewart has built his audience through his ability to find great country music and share it every Sunday on the station. He knows his subject so well.

“Fifty years of continuous broadcasting is no mean feat so all of us at the station send Stewart our heartiest congratulations. It’s an astonishing achievement and he can be rightly proud.
