Album Of The Week – Bruce McKenzie ‘Sleepy Wee Town’
Written by celtic music radio on July 26, 2025
Sleepy Wee Town is the debut release from Kirkcudbright journalist and musician, Bruce McKenzie.
This is the first outing for his own songs that range from the story of a wee town getting back on its feet after the devastation of massive job losses to one of a bus driver in New York, suddenly deciding, after many years of service, to turn the other way and go on a wee jaunt of his own.
Bruce is well known in Dumfries and Galloway through his TV appearances, for playing in the Ceilidh Shire Band and for his previous band, Scruffy Buzzards, with whom he recorded.
Over the years he’s appeared at The Wickerman Festival and supported well-respected singers like Eleanor McAvoy and Ivan Drever. Indeed, it was Ivan who finally persuaded him to get his own songs recorded.
Bruce will be talking about his music with Hugh Taylor on the Album of the Week Show today at midday.
