Album of the Week – Clementine Lovell ‘Permutations’

Written by on July 18, 2026

On her debut album Permutations Clementine Lovell offers the folk tradition treated as a living and breathing thing.

The release is a striking re-imagining of traditional folk songs with a collection of old ballads taking on a new life.

Working with multi-instrumentalist, Gergely Nagy, she uses electronics to blend piano, strings and accordion to create music that is both timeless and high-tech modern.

Her voice adds emotional weight to the stories of selkies and ghosts, wandering lovers and elfin knights.

Clementine will be talking to Hugh Taylor about her musical journey, the songs and her use of 21st century technology on the Album of the Week show today at noon.

• ALBUM OF THE WEEK SHOW – Clementine Lovell in conversation with Hugh Taylor – midday – Saturday, July 18, 2026.
