Album of the Week – John Graham & Jim Jack ‘Blackadder Water’

John Graham and Jim Jack have been a welcome part of the folk scene for decades and this is reflected in this excellent collection of songs that are rooted in the tradition that shaped them.

The album, named after the river that winds through the Borders, reflects to great effect their connection to place and memory.

It expertly brings together traditional material, such as ‘The Spanish Lady’ with contemporary folk classics and original compositions including Jack Foley’s ‘Lassie O’ the Morning’ and ‘Leaving Mallaig’ by Campbell Gunn.

Each song has been brilliantly arranged by two musicians who know exactly what they want to say and how they want to say it.
