Album of the Week – Skelpt ‘Ersten’

Written by on June 22, 2024

A red-hot blend of songs and tunes make Scots folk trio Skelpt’s debut album ‘Ersten’ a collection to savour.

Skelpt – Andrew Gordon (vocals, guitar, bodhran); Euan Johnston (vocals bodhran) and Iain Anderson (fiddle, vocals) – got together in 2023 for this new venture with the aim of creating an energetic set of music suitable for the biggest festivals and smallest clubs.

Each musician has over 30 years’ experience in performing and they play all over Scotland and Europe. Ersten’s eleven tracks feature powerful vocals and foot stomping fiddle tunes with rhythmic accompaniment provided by guitar and bodhran.

It’s a pleasing, energetic take on trad folk, highlighting the songs they love singing and tunes they love playing.

Skelpt will be in conversation with Ian Kidd today on the Album of the Week Show, starting at midday.

And during the show the band will launch a competition where a lucky Celtic Music Radio listener can win a copy of the album and some band merch.

Contacting competition@celticmusicradio.net will be how to take part and Ian will announce the winner on his show on Sunday 30th June at 11 am.

Ersten is not available on streaming services, but it can be purchased from the band directly via their website: https://www.skelpt.com
