Album of the Week – The Mairs Family Band ‘The Locker Sessions’

The Locker Sessions is the first release from The Mairs Family Band, a family who have been at the forefront of Scottish bluegrass for decades.

Alan and Louise Mairs were previously members of Scotland’s premier bluegrass group, Old Hickory, performing alongside Alan’s brothers Rob and Ian Mairs. They were known for their tight family harmonies, driving banjo work and a distinctly Scottish take on Appalachian music.

After playing in various other groups over the years, Alan and Louise are now joined by their daughter Hazel and her husband Darren Young, both formerly of The Daddy Naggins. Together, the four bring a fresh, contemporary energy to the family’s long bluegrass tradition.

The Locker Sessions was recorded at Davy Jones’ studio in Strathaven and will be officially launched at the Moniaive Michaelmas Bluegrass Festival that takes place over the weekend of 25–27 September.
