Album of the Week – Donald WG Lindsay with Alasdair Robertson ‘Welcome Home My Dearie

Welcome Home My Dearie is the debut duo album from long-time friends and collaborators Donald WG Lindsay and Alasdair Roberts – and it marks the first time they’ve committed their shared repertoire to a full-length recording.

The ten tracks range from extended Scots narrative ballads to shorter lyrical songs, both traditional and original, as well as sets of whistle and pipe tunes with guitar accompaniment.

With no overdubs and a raw, analogue fidelity, the record – recorded live to tape at Green Door Studios in Glasgow by Sam Smith – captures the energy and intimacy of Donald and Alasdair’s live performances.

The two first met as teenagers some thirty years ago and over the decades have made music together in kitchens, bars, pubs and occasionally on stage, and in the studio. Donald plays Scottish small pipes fitted with his signature Lindsay System chanter, alongside twelve-string guitar and whistle while Alasdair contributes six-string acoustic guitar. Both sing – sometimes solo, sometimes in close harmony.

They will be chatting about their intriguing music with Hugh Taylor on the Album of the Week Show today at midday.

• ALBUM OF THE WEEK SHOW – Donald WG Lindsay with Alasdair in conversation with Hugh Taylor – Saturday, October 18, 2025 – noon.
