Presenter, Mike Dillon, Wins Community Award

Written by on March 15, 2021

Congratulations go to one of our long-serving presenters who has won a Renfrewshire Council 2021 Provost’s Community Award.

Mike Dillon was nominated for the Community Volunteer Award by St James Primary School in Paisley.

Through his efforts, children at the school have benefited from working on projects alongside local community groups and artists as well as exploring opportunities through sport.

Mike has helped the school address issues of poverty experienced by pupils and their families and provided opportunities for children to attend sports camps during school holiday periods before pandemic restrictions were announced.

“To say I’m honoured to win this award is a huge understatement and it came as a huge surprise,” said Mike, who has presented his Singers and Songwriters show on Celtic Music Radio for many years.

“There is no doubt that the past year has put a huge strain on families and individuals, but in times of need you will always find folk to step up and contribute their time and effort to make things better for others.

“Every area of Renfrewshire has community champions who are unsung heroes, and I would urge people from across Renfrewshire to step forward and see what they can do for their area.

“There are so many ways that people can help make their community a better place to stay.”

Sponsored by Glasgow Airport Ltd, Mike’s award, according to the judging panel, recognised his “individual contribution to the community and dedication to the people and organisations who benefited from his selfless endeavour.”

Alex Jenkins, chair of the Board of directors at Celtic Music Radio, said:
“All of us at the station are so pleased that Mike has won this top award for all his great efforts in his local community. We offer him our congratulations in the full knowledge that he will be continuing to work tirelessly on behalf of others.”
